New Release Improves Data Center Visualization, Connectivity Management, Asset Management, and More

PISCATAWAY, N.J., November 25, 2024 – Sunbird Software, the global innovator in second-generation Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software, today announced the general availability of its latest dcTrack^® release.

Enhanced Digital Twin Visualization and Floor Maps

With dcTrack 9.2, Sunbird introduces improved floor map visualization capabilities for more efficient data center operations. Hierarchical floor maps allow users to use a single drawing file to provide a view of the entire floor with the ability to model, correlate, and drill down into individual rooms or areas as well as visualization of connectivity across rooms or data halls. This capability supports customers who are expanding technology asset management into all spaces, such as IDF closets.

Cabinets and other free-standing items can now be added and moved directly within one tool, dcTrack, with changes automatically updated in the AutoCAD® or Visio® drawing file. Users can even set cabinet angles to precisely match building layouts, providing a true-to-life digital twin experience.

Additionally, granular permissions apply to digital twin visualization so certain users (e.g., tenants) can only view the assets they have permission to see, enabling secure permission-based views for a broader user base.

Connectivity Enhancements for Modern Networks

dcTrack 9.2 brings support for multi-channel connectors, such as MPO/MTP connectors used in one-to-many high-bandwidth fiber configurations. This enhancement enables faster setup of MPO connections, allowing for accurate fiber port tracking and cleaner circuit traces.

The release also supports port creation on data panels without the need to create the structured cabling, allowing users to enter and track only the information that they consider useful. dcTrack now calculates and recommends patch cable lengths which are included in work orders.

Improved Ease of Use and Faster Planning and Provisioning

dcTrack 9.2 enhances asset management with a new bulk deploy algorithm, bulk scanning, and additional usability enhancements.

The Intelligent Capacity Search feature now allows users to bulk deploy and input the total quantity of items they are deploying and automatically distribute them amongst suitable cabinets using a variety of user-controlled algorithms. Custom tool tips for standard and custom fields enables customers to provide their users with insightful information about each field, driving higher data accuracy and consistency. Bulk scanning streamlines adding items to storage from the loading dock for a quicker intake process. A new announcement banner lets customers display text on all GUI pages and reports, useful for identifying system type or notifying users about maintenance.

Power Circuit Enhancements

dcTrack 9.2 expands power circuit support to accommodate global deployments, with full support for 100 and 200 volts commonly used in Japan, as well as 27,600 volts for switchgear and switchboards and 347/600 volts for transformers, frequently seen in Canada.

Reporting and Dashboard Enhancements

New reporting and dashboard updates simplifies the user’s experience. Admins can now hide unused widgets to streamline the dashboard for KPIs that matter most, while the addition of CSV attachments to scheduled reports exposes more data to user’s that want to dive deeper. Capacity and threshold indicators are now dashed lines for additional contrast and clarity, and printing options now support pagination.

dcTrack 9.2 includes various other enhancements including security and performance improvements.
